Holiday in Gozo - Places to see and activities to do

When visiting Malta, a visit to Gozo can’t be forgotten. Gozo is one of the three inhabited islands of the island group Malta. Even though Gozo is much smaller than Malta itself, it has a greener and more peaceful setting. Gozo gives you an opportunity to escape the busy life and just relax while enjoying the beautiful views of the island.

Nature in Gozo

Gozo has breath-taking nature with as the most remarkable view the Azure window, which is in the Dwejra bay. This bay is a beautiful place to swim and to take some pictures. Gozo has a lot of gorgeous beaches, some of them are hard to find or hidden. If you would like to see wonders of what the water can make, you should visit the Xerri’s Grotto (cave).

Activities in Gozo

Even though Gozo has beautiful landscapes, it has a lot more to offer. When you are more into activities, Gozo is also the place to be. Climbing, kayaking, horse riding, diving, hiking, cycling or maybe you rather go on jeep safari, it is all possible on this little island.

It is also possible to look for the crowds and visit some cities. The most important city of Gozo is Victoria, also known as Gozo’s Capital City. Victoria has a population of around 6500 people, which makes it the largest city of the island. The city has beautiful buildings, one of them is ‘the Cittadella’, a combination of a huge castle and a fortress. Other nice cities to visit are Xlendi and Marsalforn, which are very different from each other. Xlendi is more like a quiet place, it has spectacular views and is a beautiful place to go snorkelling. There are many caves to find on the sides of the Xlendi’s bay, which has a sandy beach. Marsalforn is the most touristic place of Gozo, it has plenty of restaurants, bars and beaches. The beaches are mostly on the rocks but there is one small sand beach to go to. Some of the hotels in Gozo have their own sandy beach.

Holiday in Gozo

Planning a holiday in Gozo? Gozo does not have an airport and that is why most locals and tourists go from Malta to Gozo with the (car) ferry, which sails between Cirkewwa (Malta) and the harbour in Mgarr (Gozo) every 45 minutes. Most of the hotels and apartments are located near the cities but some are in the middle of Gozo’s beautiful nature.
